NINO WAVED AT THE LOBBY guard on their way out, unhindered by the suspicious look the guard followed them with on their retreat from the plant building.

“Later, manong,” he called out. “So nice to meet you.”

Santana shushed him, grabbing his arm in a vice-like hold and dragging him down the steps. “Don’t ham it up.”

“What? I’m not doing anything.”

She flashed him a dark glare that would make lesser mortals spill out their darkest secrets.

He laughed, a grin cracking his face wide open. “It feels like I got away with something,” he declared, flying off the last few steps with her and leading them down the turn to the parking lot. “It feels awesome.”

“You did,” Santana said, deadpan. “You had sex with me on my work desk.”

“It feels awesome.”

They found his car under the shade of trees and the deepening night. They leaned against the hood, drops of rain clinging to their parkas, a steady, mild shower patting against their pulled-up hoods.

Nino nudged Santana’s arm, wiggling his eyebrows at her expectantly. She rolled her eyes, then rose on her tiptoes to nibble his bottom lip once.

“You did say you can give me more than good and you have delivered.”

“You’re always welcome.” Nino wound his arms around her waist and pulled her to him, leaning them back against the misted car hood. He picked up where her teasing nip left off, opening her bruised mouth with his kisses. “You’re welcome again now.”

Santana pressed herself against him, hitching herself higher, the fabric of her dress rubbing against the renewed strain in his jeans. She chuckled. “Get me home first, Boy Scout.” But she kept kissing him, kept moving against him, with him.

The rain was a soft patter around them, the breeze cold yet a mild break expected of a departing typhoon. The tail of Nino’s jacket and the seat of his jeans were getting wet against the hood of his car but he was warm all over anyway, with Santana’s lips on his and her hands all over him.

Santana’s fingers played with his earlobes as she kissed him back, then wrapped against his neck, then she was pressing her palms against his chest, bracing herself against him, their heated kiss broken.

In the weak light of the flickering lamppost and the overwhelmed moon, Nino saw her gaze balefully up at him.

“What’s wrong?”

“I like you very much,” she said grudgingly, sweetly.

“Well, duh.” He chuckled, though he knew he sounded surprised. He laughed a little, a short break so he could breathe with the feeling expanding inside him. “Is that a problem?”

She kissed him again, her coping mechanism. He felt a slight shake of her head when her lips brushed against his.

“I’m not sure,” she said, breaking away when she’d done enough to make his heart race ten marathons. “I’ve never gone this far before.”

Nino schooled his breathing, holding her to him, nose to nose, tightly so she wouldn’t go. “Everything will be alright.”

He realized he was promising again, this one sinking into his own ears like a vow he was mirroring for himself.
